1. Add data to the prices template spreadsheet

  • Each row represents one price for one product in one currency, with one price type and price qualifier, (e.g. 9.99 for a paperback in US Dollars (USD), including tax (02), for the consumer market (05)).
  • Do not change the column headers. They must be exactly the same as the template.
  • Do not add any other columns.
  • Complete all of the columns, except title, to identify the spreadsheet as an import of prices and to ensure it is validated.
  • The importer can manage a large volume of prices, up to the maximum rows that an Excel sheet can hold: over a million.

2. Price columns

ISBN

  • Required
  • Part of the required unique combination of ISBN, currency code, price type and price qualifier
  • Be certain the ISBN is for the correct product – don’t update the print ISBN with the ebook price
  • Excel may format your ISBN badly. We suggest formatting the ISBN column as number with no decimal places.

Title

  • Not required. To be used for guidance.

Currency code

  • Required
  • Part of the required unique combination of ISBN, currency code, price type and price qualifier
  • Use the appropriate ONIX currency code. View ONIX currency codes, list 96.
  • Only use currencies that are registered to your client. The pricing section of the Metadata page of any work displays your registered currencies, price types and price qualifiers.

Price type

  • Required
  • Part of the required unique combination of ISBN, currency code, price type and price qualifier
  • Use the appropriate ONIX price type code. View ONIX price type codes, list 58.
  • Excel may remove the leading 0 from your 01 code. The importer will convert 1 to 01. To be clear, the importer can process either 01 or 1 as the ONIX code.
  • Only use price types that are registered to your client. The pricing section of the Metadata page of any work displays your registered currencies, price types and price qualifiers.

Price qualifier

  • Required
  • Part of the required unique combination of ISBN, currency code, price type and price qualifier
  • Use the appropriate ONIX price qualifier code. View ONIX price qualifier codes, list 59.
  • Excel may remove the leading 0 from your 01 code. The importer will convert 1 to 01. To be clear, the importer can process either 01 or 1 as the ONIX code.
  • Only use price qualifiers that are registered to your client. The pricing section of the Metadata page of any work displays your registered currencies, price types and price qualifiers.

Price amount

  • Required
  • Must have a maximum of two decimal places
  • May only contain a full stop for the decimal point. Do not include any other delimiter, such as a comma for the thousands place, etc.
  • Must not be negative

3. Prices importing notes

Removing prices in bulk

If the price amount is blank, the import will remove that price entirely.

Retrieving imported Excel sheets

Any import’s data is available to view within the system in a grid replicating the Excel document, unless the import is deleted. However, the Excel document itself is not immediately available for re-downloading. It is stored deep in our third party asset storage so, in rare circumstances, it could be retrieved by raising a support ticket.

Deleting imported prices

In exceptional circumstances, it is possible to delete all of the prices changed from an approved prices import, but must be done by us. Raise a support ticket. It is not possible to undo a prices import or restore previous prices after the import is approved.

Downloading existing prices

A download of all existing prices is available on the CSV exports page, under Prices. Note: if you use a Consonance custom report to get existing data, check the column heading in the report to ensure you have not used ISBN-13 for Print product if you really mean to update epub prices.

  • Dragging down an Excel cell with a number value will increment it by one, turning your 1 code into a 2. Copy and paste to maintain the original value.
  • Only use currencies, price types and price qualifiers that are registered to your client. The pricing section of the Metadata page of any work will show your valid combinations. For instance GBP inc-tax is price type 02. If you use price type 01 in this instance you will not update your current price but will add a new exc-tax price.

4. Troubleshooting questions:

I don’t see my price change on the metadata page

  • This could be because you have imported a different price type to the one you normally see. For instance if you set your prices as GBP inc-tax, but you use the price type for exc-tax, you will only see your new price if you click through from the metadata pricing region to edit.
