In Consonance, a production run is a record of a one-off manufacturing event, such as a print run, the production of an audio CD, or the creation of an epub file.
There are 7 regions on a production run page, mostly oriented towards physical products:
- Order details
- Quantities
- Interior
- Bindings
- Covers
- Finishes
- Embellishments
These regions hold detailed information about the specification of the production run, which can usefully be copied and pasted into a print order, using the Copy to clipboard button at the top of the page.
Provide details of multiple deliveries by clicking Add quantity for each of your delivery recipients e.g. 10 advance office copies, 20 author copies, 1 agent copy, 1000 to a particular retailer and the rest to the warehouse.
On print runs where you split on the binding line, to print the paperback and the hardback on the same run, click Add binding twice and choose the applicable product for each.
Associated features
Use production runs in concert with other features in Consonance:
For extents and spine widths, either refer to the detailed extents and print features regions of the metadata page, or use the free text fields to provide information back to the printer.
Use to-dos for the associated workflow management of a production run.
For reprints, duplicate a previous production run and change any aspects required. Add to-dos on to the existing to-dos page for a work, for reprint activities – this produces an authoritative work-centred timeline. Set up an exemplar
Reprint work
and its to-dos so you can copy the reprint to-dos, like a template. For POD (print on demand) arrangements – multiple, usually shorter, print runs which are set up once but run often – add new POD arrangements from the work’s production page.
